Tournament Rules
Everything you need to know to play with confidence on tournament day.

Rules at a Glance
General Rules
- ✓All games are played according to the current National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) card.
- ✓Players must bring their own current NMJL card to every tournament.
- ✓A standard set of Mah Jongg tiles is provided at each table.
- ✓Players are responsible for knowing the rules before arriving.
Tournament Format
- ✓Each round consists of 4 games and must be completed within 50 minutes.
- ✓Tables and seat positions are assigned by the tournament directors.
- ✓Players rotate tables between rounds as directed.
Scoring
- ✓Scoring follows standard NMJL tournament scoring guidelines.
- ✓Scorecards are provided and must be completed after each round.
- ✓Disputes must be raised immediately — scores cannot be changed after submission.
- ✓Tournament directors have final say on all scoring disputes.
Conduct & Etiquette
- ✓Respectful behavior toward all players and staff is required at all times.
- ✓No coaching or assistance during play.
- ✓Cell phones must be silenced during rounds.
- ✓Players who are disruptive may be asked to leave without a refund.
Timing
- ✓Check-in begins at 10:00 AM. Late arrivals may forfeit their seat.
- ✓Play begins promptly at 10:30 AM.
- ✓A timer will signal the end of each round.
Prizes & Awards
- ✓Awards are given for overall top performance
- ✓Special awards are given to High Round and Hand of the Day.
- ✓Prize distribution takes place at the end of the tournament.
- ✓Winners must be present to receive their award.
